General Questions

A handmade rug is a textile floor covering woven, knotted, or tufted entirely by skilled artisans without the use of mechanical production machinery. At Planet Arts in Jaipur, India, each handmade rug is the product of months — sometimes years — of deliberate craft: from hand-combing raw fibers and natural dyeing, to individually knotting or weaving each row under master supervision.

Unlike machine-made rugs that replicate patterns through automated looms, handmade rugs carry inherent variation, depth, and character unique to each piece. The pile stands with a natural irregularity that becomes richer with age, and the construction is robust enough to last for generations when properly maintained. For discerning designers and collectors, handmade rugs represent the highest tier of floor furnishing — both artistically and in material quality.

Planet Arts is a luxury handmade rug manufacturer based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India — the historic capital of India's finest rug-making tradition. Established in 2004, we operate our own atelier where master weavers, dyers, and finishing specialists collaborate on every project.

Our work spans three distinct collections — Aura, Magna, and Impact — alongside bespoke custom commissions for interior designers, architects, hospitality groups, and private collectors worldwide. We manufacture hand knotted rugs, hand tufted rugs, flatweaves, designer rugs, and contract hospitality rugs, and export globally to over 40 countries.

Planet Arts manufactures the full spectrum of luxury handmade rugs. Our product range includes:

Hand Knotted Rugs — The apex of rug-making craft, with each knot individually tied around warp threads, creating extraordinary durability and visual depth. Hand Tufted Rugs — Created using a hand-operated tufting gun to push fiber loops through a backing material, ideal for bolder textures and contemporary designs. Flatweaves — Pileless rugs woven tightly on a loom, revered for their graphic clarity and versatility in both residential and commercial applications. Custom Rugs — Fully bespoke pieces designed in close collaboration with clients to precise dimensions, color specifications, and pile profiles. Hospitality Rugs — Contract-grade handmade rugs engineered for performance in high-traffic luxury hotel, resort, and F&B environments. Designer Rugs — Signature-designed pieces created with or for architects and interior designers as artistic statements.

Planet Arts was established in 2004 in Jaipur, India, giving us over two decades of focused expertise in luxury handmade rug manufacturing. Our two decades of operation have been dedicated entirely to the highest tier of rug craftsmanship — a period in which we have refined our dyeing processes, sourcing relationships, finishing techniques, and quality control protocols.

This longevity in a demanding luxury segment reflects a commitment to quality that allows no compromise. Many of our senior artisans have been with Planet Arts since the early years, carrying institutional knowledge of traditional Jaipur weaving methods that informs every piece we produce.

Jaipur holds a singular position in the global handmade rug industry — one earned over centuries. The city has been a center of textile artistry since the Mughal era, and today its rug-making workshops are known for combining traditional Persian and Central Asian knotting techniques with contemporary design sensibility, technical innovation in fiber preparation, and a tradition of natural dyeing that produces colors of exceptional depth and permanency.

Jaipur-made rugs benefit from a concentrated ecosystem of specialist craft knowledge: master weavers, natural dyers, carvers, and washers whose families have refined these skills across generations. At Planet Arts, this heritage is paired with modern design direction and rigorous export standards to produce luxury rugs that meet the expectations of the world's most discerning clients.

Yes. Planet Arts welcomes trade visits from interior designers, architects, procurement specialists, and hospitality buyers who wish to see our manufacturing process firsthand. A visit to our Jaipur facility includes a guided walkthrough of the knotting floor, dyeing workshop, washing facility, and quality control station — providing direct insight into the craftsmanship behind every piece.

Visits are by appointment and can be coordinated to coincide with the review of active or prospective projects. International clients visiting Jaipur are warmly encouraged to schedule a studio appointment in advance through our trade team.

Planet Arts serves both channels. We maintain a dedicated trade program for interior designers, architects, and procurement firms — offering preferred pricing, sampling services, project management support, and exclusive design access. This channel is the primary route for most of our work.

We also work directly with private residential clients, collectors, and homeowners who are commissioning a significant custom rug or seeking pieces from our established collections. Direct clients benefit from the same attentive service as our trade partners, guided through material selection, sizing, and design by our specialist team.

Pricing for luxury handmade rugs reflects the extraordinary investment of skilled human time, premium raw materials, and years of refined process. At Planet Arts, pricing varies significantly based on construction method, fiber choice, knot density, dimensions, and design complexity.

As a broad reference: hand tufted rugs in premium wool begin at a more accessible entry point, while hand knotted rugs — particularly those in silk or high-density silk-wool combinations — command significantly higher investment reflecting the months of artisanal labor involved. Custom hospitality and large-format commissions are priced on a project basis. We encourage potential clients to contact our team directly for accurate quotation; we are committed to transparency and will provide detailed breakdowns for every project.

A properly made hand knotted rug is among the most durable objects in the decorative arts. Antique Persian and Jaipur rugs from the 19th century are still in active use and auction today — testament to the structural longevity of the knotted construction. Under typical residential use with appropriate care, a quality hand knotted rug should comfortably outlast a century.

Hand tufted rugs have a shorter functional lifespan — typically 20 to 50 years depending on traffic and care — due to the latex backing that secures the pile. Flatweaves, lacking pile, are exceptionally durable and can last many decades in high-traffic conditions. At Planet Arts, construction quality is never compromised; every method we employ is executed to the highest standard its category allows.

Fine hand knotted rugs — particularly those of exceptional knot density, rare fiber combinations, or distinguished provenance — have a documented history of appreciating in value. The global market for antique and collectible handmade rugs is robust and well-supported by major auction houses. Silk rugs and high-density wool-silk pieces are particularly regarded as objects of value beyond their decorative function.

While we at Planet Arts are a manufacturer rather than investment advisors, many of our clients — collectors, interior designers, and hospitality buyers — regard our pieces as both aesthetic and material investments. The enduring quality of Jaipur craftsmanship, combined with the finite supply of truly skilled handmade rug artisans, positions fine pieces favorably for the long term.

Custom Rug Questions

Yes — customization is one of Planet Arts' core strengths, and the majority of our work involves bespoke commissions. Every parameter of a rug can be tailored: dimensions (any size or shape, including non-rectangular), construction method (hand knotted, hand tufted, or flatweave), fiber selection (wool, silk, bamboo silk, linen, cotton, and blends), pile height, color palette (with precise custom dyeing to Pantone, RAL, or sample matching), and design or pattern (client-provided artwork, original design from our studio, or adaptation of an existing piece).

Planet Arts has executed custom commissions ranging from intimate residential pieces to large-format hotel lobby installations spanning hundreds of square meters. Our design team works closely with clients at every stage to ensure the final piece is exactly as envisioned.

Absolutely. Planet Arts is highly experienced in translating client-provided artwork, digital designs, mood boards, architectural drawings, or artistic concepts into manufacturable rug designs. Our design team reviews your artwork and creates a detailed technical cartoon — the rug-making equivalent of a technical drawing — which maps colors, pattern geometry, and pile distribution across the exact dimensions of your commission.

You may provide: a finished digital design (vector or high-resolution raster), a hand-drawn concept for our team to develop, a reference image or photograph, a fabric or material sample you wish to interpret, or simply a detailed brief describing your vision. We collaborate iteratively, providing design proofs and sample cuttings for approval before production begins.

Planet Arts is able to accommodate single-piece custom commissions for residential and designer clients. For trade and wholesale customers, minimum order quantities vary by construction type and design complexity. Hand knotted custom pieces are typically available as single commissions. Hand tufted and flatweave pieces produced in series may have a minimum of 2–5 pieces depending on the design complexity and setup costs.

For hospitality and commercial projects requiring consistent pattern runs across multiple spaces, we work collaboratively to structure orders that optimize quality and cost efficiency. Please contact our trade team to discuss specific project requirements and we will provide transparent guidance on MOQ and pricing.

Our custom rug process follows a structured sequence designed to deliver confidence at every stage: 1. Brief and Consultation — You share your vision, space dimensions, material preferences, and timeline. Our team reviews and asks clarifying questions. 2. Design Development — Our in-house designers translate your brief into a scaled technical drawing with color specifications, presented digitally for your review. 3. Sample Approval — Where appropriate, we produce a hand-knotted or tufted sample panel in the actual materials and colors, shipped for your physical approval. 4. Production — Upon approval, the full commission enters production in our Jaipur atelier, with milestone updates provided. 5. Quality Control and Finishing — Every piece undergoes rigorous inspection, washing, and finishing before dispatch. 6. Shipping and Installation — We manage packing and freight with trusted logistics partners, coordinating delivery to your destination.

Lead times at Planet Arts reflect the genuine craftsmanship invested in each piece and cannot be artificially compressed without compromising quality. As a general guide: Hand Tufted Rugs — 8 to 14 weeks from design approval. Flatweaves — 6 to 10 weeks from design approval. Hand Knotted Rugs — 16 to 52 weeks depending on size, knot density, and design complexity. A large, fine-knotted silk piece may require longer.

These timelines include design finalization, dyeing, knotting or weaving, washing, finishing, quality control, and logistics preparation. We recommend that designers and project managers factor these lead times into project schedules from the earliest planning stage. We are happy to provide precise timeline estimates for any specific commission.

Yes. Planet Arts produces rugs in any shape required by the design brief — including circles, ovals, semicircles, runners, hexagons, organic shapes, and architecturally specific profiles that follow the footprint of a staircase, room, or furniture arrangement. Non-rectangular shapes are particularly common in hospitality projects, where rugs must conform to curved corridors, circular lobbies, or bespoke furniture arrangements.

Shape customization applies to all our construction methods. For hand knotted pieces, the shaped edges are finished with handbound or whip-stitched borders. For hand tufted rugs, the backing is precision-cut and finished to the specified profile. All shaped pieces are produced with the same material and quality standards as rectangular formats.

Color precision is a particular strength at Planet Arts. Our dye laboratory in Jaipur is capable of formulating custom colors to match Pantone references, RAL codes, NCS references, physical fabric or paint samples, or digital color specifications. We provide dyed strand samples for client approval before any production dyeing begins.

It is important to note that natural fibers — particularly wool and silk — absorb dye differently, and that finished rug colors will appear slightly different under different lighting conditions. Our team accounts for this in the dyeing process and provides dyed samples under multiple light sources on request. For critical color-matching projects, we strongly recommend reviewing physical samples in the actual installation environment before approving production.

Planet Arts has significant experience reproducing or adapting existing pieces for clients. Whether you need an additional rug that matches a piece already in situ, a larger or smaller version of an existing design, or an adaptation of a vintage rug's pattern into a contemporary palette, our design team can develop a production-ready interpretation from photographs, measurements, and where possible, physical inspection of the reference piece.

We approach reproduction projects with the same rigor as original commissions: technical drawing, color matching, material selection, and sample approval are all part of the process. Clients are advised that some variation is inherent in handmade reproduction — this is not a defect but a characteristic of genuine craft.

Yes. Planet Arts provides a full design consultancy service for clients at any stage of clarity. Whether you have a highly detailed brief or simply know the room dimensions and a general aesthetic direction, our design team is skilled at translating brief conversations and visual references into compelling rug concepts. We begin with a discovery consultation — conducted by video call or in person — to understand the space, the project, your aesthetic sensibilities, and any practical requirements.

This consultancy is available to both trade professionals and direct residential clients. It costs nothing to begin a conversation — our team's collective expertise is genuinely at your service from the first enquiry.

For projects that proceed to production, design development costs are typically included in the overall project pricing. For complex original design work — particularly where our studio originates an entirely new design concept — a design development fee may apply, which is then credited against the final production invoice. Sample production fees may also apply for hand knotted sample panels; these are likewise credited against confirmed orders.

We are fully transparent about all costs before any commitment is made. Our team will provide a clear project scope and cost structure at the outset of every engagement, with no hidden charges.

03

Materials & Fibers

Planet Arts sources and works with the finest natural and select technical fibers available. Our primary materials include: New Zealand Wool — prized for its long, lustrous staple length, exceptional resilience, and color vibrancy. Himalayan Highland Wool — a denser, more textured fiber with extraordinary thermal properties. Pure Silk — used for its incomparable sheen, fineness of detail, and luminous quality. Bamboo Silk (viscose from bamboo) — a semi-natural fiber offering silk-like luster at a more accessible price point, favored for contemporary designs. Nettle and Linen — natural bast fibers used in flatweaves for organic texture and earthen character. Cotton — used primarily as a foundation (warp and weft) in hand knotted construction, or as pile in specific flatweave designs.

Blended constructions — particularly wool-silk and wool-bamboo silk combinations — are among our most popular choices, offering a balance of durability, visual richness, and tactile luxury.

Bamboo silk — also referred to as bamboo viscose or art silk — is a semi-synthetic fiber derived from the cellulose of bamboo plants through a chemical regeneration process. Despite the term "silk," it is not a protein fiber like true mulberry silk, but it shares several visual characteristics: high sheen, a soft drape, and excellent light-reflective quality that gives rugs a luminous, almost shimmering surface when the pile changes direction in light.

Bamboo silk performs beautifully in low-traffic and decorative applications — bedroom rugs, living room feature pieces, and wall hangings. However, it is less resilient under heavy foot traffic than wool and more susceptible to watermarking. We recommend bamboo silk constructions for interior spaces where visual impact takes precedence, and advise clients on placement accordingly. Many of our most visually striking pieces incorporate bamboo silk as an accent fiber within wool foundations, capturing the best of both materials.

Wool rugs are the most versatile and practical choice for most applications. Wool is naturally resilient, soil-resistant, flame-retardant, and humidity-regulating. A fine wool rug tolerates daily life gracefully and improves in character with age. Wool also accepts dye with exceptional richness, producing colors of great depth. For high-use living areas, hallways, dining rooms, and hospitality environments, wool — particularly New Zealand wool — is the material of choice at Planet Arts.

Silk rugs represent the pinnacle of fiber luxury. Pure mulberry silk, with its very fine thread diameter, allows knot densities far beyond what is possible with wool — enabling extraordinary levels of design detail and painterly gradations of color. The natural protein sheen of silk gives these pieces a quality of light that is entirely unique: they appear to change color as the viewing angle shifts. Silk rugs are best appreciated in lower-traffic settings — formal living rooms, studies, collector spaces — and require more careful maintenance than wool counterparts. At Planet Arts, silk and wool-silk blend rugs represent our most prestigious commissions.

Yes. Planet Arts maintains the capability to produce rugs using traditional natural vegetable dyes — sourced from materials including indigo, madder, pomegranate rind, weld, oak gall, and walnut husk — as well as premium-grade synthetic dyes that meet the highest standards of color fastness and environmental compliance.

Natural-dyed rugs are prized for their tonal complexity and the gentle, nuanced way their colors age. The process is more time-intensive and yields colors of slightly lower uniformity — which many connoisseurs regard as a mark of authenticity and living beauty rather than a flaw. Synthetic dye techniques at Planet Arts use only OEKO-TEX certified colorants, ensuring no harmful substances are present in the finished product. Clients may specify their preference for natural or synthetic dyeing at the project brief stage.

Planet Arts sources primarily New Zealand Corriedale and Merino wool, recognized globally as among the finest grades available for rug production. These wools are characterized by their long staple length, uniform fiber diameter, high lanolin content (which naturally resists soil and provides a natural luster), and exceptional affinity for dye uptake that produces rich, long-lasting color.

For specific commissions requiring unique textural character, we also work with Himalayan Tibetan wool — a coarser, denser fiber from high-altitude sheep with extraordinary resilience and a distinctive matte, tactile quality. The choice of wool significantly shapes the character of the finished piece, and our team is happy to discuss the nuances of each for any given project.

Hand-spun yarn is produced by hand on traditional spinning wheels (charkhas or taklis), resulting in slight irregularities in diameter along the thread. In a finished rug, this creates a subtle variation in pile surface — producing areas of slightly different light absorption that give the piece a dimensional, organic quality sometimes described as a "broken" or "antique" effect. Many collectors and designers specifically commission hand-spun yarn rugs for this characteristic depth.

Mill-spun yarn is produced mechanically to a consistent diameter, resulting in more uniform pile in the finished rug. Mill-spun wool is the standard for most contemporary rug production and is preferred where graphic precision and color consistency are priorities. Planet Arts works with both yarn types; the choice is determined by the desired aesthetic outcome of each project.

Yes — multi-material constructions are among our most artistically sophisticated pieces. Common combinations include: Wool and silk — the silk highlights specific design motifs or grounds while wool forms the body, creating extraordinary contrast between matte and luminous surfaces in a single rug. Wool and bamboo silk — a more accessible version of the same principle, offering visual drama at a lower price point. Wool and linen or nettle — creating textural contrast between soft pile and natural bast fiber flatweave areas within the same piece. Metallic thread accents — fine metallic yarns can be incorporated within knotted or tufted structures for selected design elements.

Our design team has deep experience in translating multi-material concepts into technically achievable constructions, and we always provide a detailed material specification for client approval before production.

Yes. Planet Arts is committed to producing rugs that are safe for residential and commercial indoor environments. Our wool and silk are free from chemical finishing agents that are harmful to health, and our dye processes use only colorants compliant with OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification standards — one of the world's most rigorous independent textile safety certification frameworks.

We do not use azo dyes that release carcinogenic amines, formaldehyde-based fixatives, or heavy-metal mordants beyond those approved under international standards. Clients requiring specific certifications for hospitality or commercial projects — including GREENGUARD or specific EU chemical compliance — should discuss their requirements with our trade team at the project outset.

Pile height refers to the length of the fiber loops above the foundation weave — in practical terms, how thick or deep the rug surface feels underfoot. Pile height significantly affects both the aesthetic and functional character of a rug. High-pile or shaggy constructions (pile height of 20mm+) feel deeply luxurious underfoot and create a visually soft, sumptuous presence, but are less suited to high-traffic areas or spaces where furniture sits directly on the rug. Low-pile rugs (8mm or under) are sleeker, crisper in pattern definition, and more practical for dining areas, offices, and heavy-use spaces.

For hand knotted rugs, pile height is determined by the cut length applied during knotting, and our artisans can execute any specified height with precision. Medium pile (12–18mm) represents the most versatile range for luxury residential applications, balancing tactile richness with practical durability.

The foundation of a hand knotted rug consists of warp threads (running lengthwise through the rug) and weft threads (running horizontally, locking each row of knots in place). At Planet Arts, cotton is the most commonly used foundation material for its dimensional stability, resistance to stretching, and neutral behavior — it does not affect the appearance of the finished piece but provides an extremely stable base for the pile above.

For the finest silk rugs, a silk warp is sometimes used — this allows for the very finest knot densities, as silk warp threads can be set at a much closer spacing than cotton. Wool-on-wool constructions (pile and foundation both wool) are characteristic of some traditional Tibetan and Central Asian pieces, producing a different textural and flexibility quality in the finished rug.

04

Construction Methods

A hand knotted rug is the most labor-intensive and revered construction in the rug-making tradition. Each individual knot — a short length of pile yarn wrapped around two adjacent warp threads and secured in place — is tied by hand, one at a time, across the full width of the rug. After each row of knots is completed, one or more weft threads are passed horizontally to lock the row in place, and the pile is pressed down with a comb. A skilled weaver in Jaipur can tie approximately 8,000 to 12,000 knots per day; a fine rug may contain several million knots in total.

The density of knotting — measured in knots per square inch (KPSI) — directly determines the level of design detail achievable and is a primary indicator of quality and value. At Planet Arts, our hand knotted rugs range from approximately 60 KPSI in coarser, more textural work to over 400 KPSI in our finest silk pieces.

A hand tufted rug is made using a hand-operated tufting gun — a tool that pushes loops of yarn through a stretched canvas backing material. The artisan guides the gun across the canvas following the design, creating the pile pattern. Once tufting is complete, a layer of latex is applied to the back to secure the loops, and a secondary fabric backing is adhered to finish the piece.

Key differences from hand knotted: Speed and cost — hand tufted rugs can be produced in a fraction of the time, making them significantly more accessible in price. Backing — the latex backing of a tufted rug is a structural component but also the primary limit of its lifespan; latex can degrade over decades. Design capability — tufted construction allows excellent design reproduction and strong color blocks, though very fine detail is harder to achieve than in high-density knotted work. Durability — excellent for residential and low-to-medium traffic commercial use, though shorter-lived than hand knotted. Both are beautiful — the choice depends on project requirements and budget.

A flatweave rug — also known in traditional Indian weaving as a Dhurrie or Kilim — is woven on a loom without the addition of pile. The pattern is created entirely through the interlocking of colored weft and warp threads. The result is a flat, reversible textile with a distinctly different character from pile rugs: crisper, graphic, lighter in weight, and often cooler underfoot.

Flatweaves are an excellent choice where: a sleeker, less formal aesthetic is desired; easy cleaning is a priority (flatweaves are often washable and dry quickly); a lighter weight piece is needed (for layering, hanging, or frequent repositioning); budget is a consideration alongside quality; or a graphic, geometric, or linear design in high contrast is the aesthetic goal. Planet Arts produces flatweaves in wool, cotton, linen, nettle, and blends, working with both traditional Indian Dhurrie conventions and contemporary design directions.

The two primary knot types used in hand knotted rug-making are the Persian (Senneh) knot and the Turkish (Ghiordes) knot. The Persian knot is asymmetric — the yarn wraps around one warp thread and under the other — allowing for very high knot densities and enabling fine diagonal lines and curved design elements. It is the dominant knot type in Jaipur production and the standard at Planet Arts. The Turkish knot is symmetric — the yarn wraps around both adjacent warp threads — creating a slightly sturdier individual knot that is better suited to geometric designs and thick pile applications.

Knot density — the number of knots per square inch or square decimeter — is determined by the tightness of the warp setting and the fineness of the yarn. Higher KPSI (knots per square inch) allows for more design detail, greater color resolution, and a finer final pile surface, but requires more time and skilled labor per square foot of production.

There is no single "best" knot density — the appropriate density depends on the design, material, and intended aesthetic. As a guide: 60–100 KPSI — suitable for bold, textural designs in thick wool; produces a pleasantly heavy, textural rug with a contemporary character. 100–200 KPSI — the versatile midrange for most residential wool and wool-silk commissions; sufficient for clean design reproduction and good visual depth. 200–300 KPSI — for fine, detailed designs in thin-spun wool and silk blends; produces excellent color gradation and design complexity. 300–500+ KPSI — the realm of collector-grade and fine silk rugs, enabling near-photographic design reproduction and extraordinary visual refinement.

At Planet Arts, we recommend the appropriate knot density for each project based on the design complexity and material specified. Higher density is not always necessary or desirable — bold, oversized geometric designs often look most powerful at lower densities, where the texture of the pile itself becomes part of the composition.

Rug carving — also called relief carving or sculpting — is a finishing technique where the pile around design outlines and between color areas is trimmed to different heights using specialist scissors or electric carving tools. The result is a three-dimensional relief effect that emphasizes design contours, creates a shadow-and-light interplay across the pile surface, and gives the rug a distinctly sculptural quality.

Yes, Planet Arts offers carving as a standard finishing option on both hand knotted and hand tufted rugs. Carved finishes are particularly effective on botanical, floral, and abstract organic designs, and are a characteristic feature of many contemporary luxury rug collections. Our finishing artisans have extensive experience in detailed carving work and can execute designs from subtle contouring to dramatic high-relief sculpting.

Washing is a critical step in the production of every handmade rug at Planet Arts, both functionally and aesthetically. After knotting or tufting is complete, the rug is washed using a combination of water and mild natural cleansing agents — a process that removes residual lanolin, loose fiber, and dust accumulated during production, and begins to settle the pile into its final character.

At Planet Arts, we employ several specialist washing techniques depending on the fiber and desired finish: Standard wash — a thorough clean that brightens colors and evens the pile. Stone wash — a tumbling process that gently distresses the pile to produce a soft, slightly aged character. Chemical wash or luster wash — a controlled process applied to wool rugs that oxidizes the surface fiber, producing a silky, subtle sheen and a slightly antique quality to the coloration. Tea wash — a mild tonal wash that introduces a warm, aged patina, softening new color contrasts toward the character of an older piece. Following washing, rugs are stretched and blocked on frames to dry in exact dimensions, then trimmed, carved (where specified), and inspected before dispatch.

A luster wash (also called a chemical wash or luster finish) is a controlled treatment applied to wool rugs after standard washing. In the process, a dilute solution contacts the surface pile, partially opening the outer scales of the wool fiber to reflect more light, producing a distinctive semi-silk sheen. The treatment also subtly shifts the color character of the rug — typically softening and warming the palette, which can lend a piece the quality of a much older, mellowed antique rug.

Luster-washed rugs have a characteristic hand — slightly silkier to the touch than untreated wool — and a visual quality that is highly regarded in both traditional and contemporary design contexts. The treatment is durable and does not significantly compromise the rug's physical integrity. It is an optional finish at Planet Arts that many clients specify for transitional or more formally traditional interior projects where the warmth of aged character is sought in a newly made piece.

Quality control at Planet Arts is embedded throughout every stage of production rather than applied only as a final inspection. Key control points include: Fiber inspection at intake — all raw material is checked for grade, cleanliness, and fiber length. Dye batch approval — every dye batch is checked against the approved color reference before yarn enters production. Loom inspection during knotting — our floor supervisors conduct regular checks on warp tension, knot evenness, and design accuracy at the loom. Post-wash inspection — finished dimensions, color match, pile evenness, edge integrity, and pattern accuracy are checked against the approved specification. Pre-shipment final inspection — each piece is reviewed under both natural and artificial light, rolled, and documented before packing.

For hospitality and large commercial commissions, we offer third-party inspection facilitation upon client request, coordinating with internationally recognized quality verification agencies.

One of the most significant virtues of hand knotted rugs is their repairability. Because the structure is built knot by knot, damage to any area of a hand knotted rug — whether from moth infestation, physical tearing, or water damage — can be addressed by skilled repair artisans who re-knot the damaged area with matching yarn. Provided original materials or very close matches can be sourced, such repairs can be virtually invisible.

Planet Arts offers repair and restoration consultation for clients with damaged pieces. We can assess whether a piece is repairable, provide an estimate for restoration work, and if the piece was originally made by us, can often draw upon original yarn reserves to ensure the closest possible color match. Hand tufted rugs can be repaired to a degree, though the latex backing complicates complete structural restoration.

05

Sizing & Placement

Rug sizing is one of the most common sources of uncertainty in interior design, and one of the most important decisions — an undersized rug will visually shrink a room, while the right size rug anchors a space and unifies the furniture arrangement. The most reliable approach is to work with the furniture layout rather than the room size.

Living rooms: The rug should be large enough for all primary seating pieces to have at least their front legs resting on it. A rug that sits only under the coffee table typically looks disconnected. For most living room arrangements, this means a rug of at least 240×300cm, and larger for open-plan spaces. Dining rooms: The rug should extend at least 60cm beyond the edge of the dining table on all sides, allowing chairs to remain on the rug when pulled out. Bedrooms: The rug should extend at minimum 60cm on either side of the bed and at the foot. A generous bedroom rug — extending the full width of the space beyond the bedside tables — is one of the most luxurious experiences in residential design. Planet Arts manufactures any size to your specific dimensional requirements.

For most luxury residential living rooms, a rug of 240×300cm to 300×400cm (approximately 8'×10' to 10'×13') is the most used range. This scale allows all primary seating to rest on the rug with space to spare, visually defines the conversation area within the room, and provides a sufficiently prominent canvas for an impactful design. Open-plan spaces or very large formal rooms may warrant rugs of 350×500cm or beyond — custom sizes that Planet Arts executes with the same precision as standard formats.

In general, the instinct to "play it safe" with a smaller rug is one of the most common and costly mistakes in interior design. A rug that fills the room generously — even leaving only 30–40cm of hard floor exposed at the perimeter — creates a sense of architectural completeness that elevates the entire space. We encourage designers and clients to consider the largest practical size first.

The finest luxury interiors favor hand knotted rugs in high-quality wool, silk, or wool-silk combinations. These pieces have a visual and tactile depth that no machine-made or tufted alternative can replicate. For formal living and dining spaces, silk or wool-silk rugs in medium-to-fine knot densities deliver an exceptional level of design refinement and that characteristic play of light across the pile that defines the finest room settings.

Planet Arts' Aura collection — characterized by its quiet, refined elegance and tonal sophistication — is particularly sought by interior designers working on high-end residential projects. For spaces where a bolder artistic statement is the brief, our Impact collection offers dramatically scaled contemporary designs that function as the visual centerpiece of a room. Material, color, and scale should all be matched to the architectural character and mood of the space; our design consultancy service is available to help with these decisions.

For the best residential bedroom experience, the rug should extend beyond the bed frame on three sides — both sides and the foot of the bed — by a minimum of 60cm, and ideally 75–90cm. This ensures that when someone rises from the bed, their feet land on the warmth and softness of the rug rather than hard floor, creating an immediate sensory luxury that is one of the most subtle and pleasurable details of a well-appointed bedroom.

A common alternative in smaller bedrooms is to place a rug that emerges from beneath the lower two-thirds of the bed, visible on both sides and at the foot, with the bed's headboard resting on hard floor. Either approach works well; the key is that the rug is large enough to be genuinely experienced, not merely decorative. Planet Arts will manufacture any bedroom rug to your exact measured dimensions.

Yes — a quality rug pad is strongly recommended under any handmade rug on a hard floor surface. A rug pad serves several important functions: it prevents the rug from slipping, which is both a safety concern and a practical nuisance; it provides additional cushioning underfoot, enhancing the tactile experience; it protects the back of the rug from abrasion against the floor surface; and it allows air circulation beneath the rug, reducing the accumulation of moisture and protecting both the rug and the floor.

We recommend natural rubber or felt-and-rubber combination pads, sized approximately 5–7cm smaller than the rug on all sides to keep the pad invisible from the room. Avoid PVC or cheap synthetic pads — these can off-gas, discolor floor finishes, and degrade rapidly. Planet Arts can advise on appropriate rug pad types for your floor surface and rug construction.

Layering rugs over wall-to-wall carpet is an established and effective design technique, particularly in hotel rooms and residential bedrooms where fitted carpet forms the base and a decorative handmade rug is placed over it to define the sitting or sleeping area. Flatweave rugs are the most practical choice for layering, as their flat profile lies smoothly over carpet without creating unwanted height or instability. Pile rugs can also be layered, though the combined pile heights should be considered — very thick pile over long-pile carpet can create an unstable or overly spongy surface.

For hospitality environments, rug-over-carpet layering is a popular design strategy as it allows a standard fitted carpet across rooms while introducing individual design character through unique rug placements without the cost and disruption of full floor replacement.

For most traditionally oriented patterned rugs — medallion designs, floral fields, directional landscapes — the conventional orientation is with the primary direction of the design facing toward the main entrance of the room, or toward the primary seating position, so that the design is "read" correctly as one enters or faces it. For bordered rugs, the border creates a natural frame that reads correctly in any orientation.

In contemporary design, deliberate rotation — even 45 degrees for a diamond orientation — can be used as a dynamic compositional device. For abstract or all-over pattern designs, orientation is typically irrelevant. Planet Arts produces rugs with clear technical orientation notes where the design is directional, and our team can advise on placement strategy for specific designs in specific rooms.

Yes. Planet Arts manufactures custom stair runners to precise specifications, including length, width, pattern repeat alignment calibrated to the stair tread depth, and border design that frames the runner along its long edges. Stair runners are available in all our construction methods — hand knotted, hand tufted, and flatweave — with flatweave often recommended for high-traffic residential staircases and hand tufted wool for a luxurious feel underfoot.

We work with designers and clients to specify runners that are perfectly proportioned to their staircase, including accurate cutting of pattern repeats so that the design reads consistently step to step. Landing rugs can be produced as companion pieces that coordinate in material, color, and design language. Please share your staircase measurements and any design brief with our team for a detailed proposal.

Care & Maintenance

Routine maintenance of a handmade rug is straightforward and significantly extends the life and appearance of the piece. For regular upkeep: Vacuum regularly (2–3 times per week in high-traffic areas, weekly for bedroom rugs) using a brushless suction head or by hand-rolling a carpet sweeper. Avoid using beater-bar vacuum attachments on fine pile, as they can distort or pull fibers. Vacuum both sides periodically — the reverse side accumulates grit and debris that, if left, can act as an abrasive against the pile from beneath. Rotate the rug every 6–12 months in living areas to ensure even traffic wear and sun exposure.

For spills: Act immediately. Blot (do not rub) liquid spills with a clean white cloth, working from the outside of the spill inward. For solid or semi-solid spills, gently scrape with a dull knife before blotting. Apply a very small amount of cool water and blot again. Never use hot water or aggressive cleaning products, and never saturate the rug. If in doubt, contact a professional rug cleaning specialist. Professional wash: Every 3–5 years, depending on use, a handmade rug should receive a professional hand wash at a specialist rug cleaning facility — not a dry cleaner or steam cleaning service.

Yes — professional hand washing is the correct method for deep cleaning handmade rugs, and is distinct from standard carpet cleaning methods. The correct process involves full immersion washing in clean water with mild natural cleaning agents, gentle agitation to loosen embedded grit and soil, thorough rinsing, and controlled drying flat (never tumble-dried) to avoid dimensional distortion.

It is important to use a specialist rug washing facility familiar with natural-fiber handmade rugs. Many general carpet cleaning services are inappropriate — steam cleaning can shrink or distort natural fibers, and harsh chemical spot treatments can permanently alter dye. Planet Arts can advise clients on appropriate professional cleaning services and frequency recommendations for specific pieces based on their construction and fiber type.

Correct storage is essential for preserving handmade rugs when they are not in use — particularly fine silk or wool-silk pieces. The correct process: Clean first — always have the rug professionally cleaned before storage; embedded soil and organic matter will damage fiber over time. Roll, never fold — rolling prevents crease damage to the pile and foundation. Roll pile-side inward for pile rugs, around a clean acid-free tube. Wrap in breathable material — wrap the rolled rug in clean cotton muslin or acid-free tissue. Avoid plastic wrapping, which traps moisture and can cause mold and odor. Store horizontally in a cool, dry, dark location with good air circulation. Attics and basements with temperature and humidity fluctuations are not suitable. Moth protection — include cedar blocks or breathable sachets of natural moth repellent (lavender, cedar) without direct contact with the pile. Check stored rugs periodically for signs of moth or pest activity.

Moth damage — caused by the larvae of clothes moths and related species — is the most common form of irreversible damage to wool rugs, and is entirely preventable with basic vigilance. Moths target undisturbed wool in dark, low-traffic areas. Key prevention measures: Regular vacuuming, especially under furniture legs and along rug edges. Regular rotation ensures no area of the rug is permanently under furniture where moths could lay eggs undisturbed. Daylight and air — periodic exposure to sunlight and fresh air is a natural deterrent. Cedar and lavender — place cedar rings, blocks, or lavender sachets near stored rugs and beneath furniture where rugs are difficult to vacuum.

If you suspect moth damage — indicated by bare patches in the pile or visible larvae — do not delay. Remove the rug from the room immediately to prevent spread, vacuum thoroughly, and consult a specialist. Early-stage moth damage can be professionally treated and the rug restored; advanced damage leaves bald patches that require skilled re-knotting to repair.

Prolonged, direct sun exposure will cause color fading in any textile, including fine handmade rugs. Natural fiber rugs dyed with synthetic colorants are generally more fade-resistant than naturally dyed pieces, but all will fade over years of intense direct sun. UV radiation also weakens fiber over time, contributing to accelerated wear in sun-exposed areas.

Practical mitigation: use UV-filtering window film or glazing in rooms where valuable rugs are placed; use window coverings during peak sun hours; rotate rugs regularly to equalize any fading across the piece. If color fading does occur unevenly, restoration re-dyeing is possible for certain rug types — though this is a specialist service best discussed with our team. Note that some gentle, even fading over many years is not undesirable — it is part of the natural aging character that antique rug enthusiasts prize.

Yes — a modest amount of shedding from a new handmade wool rug is entirely normal and is not a sign of defect. During the knotting or tufting process, loose fiber fragments accumulate in the pile and will emerge through vacuuming over the first few weeks and months of use. This shedding diminishes naturally and typically stops within the first 6–12 months of regular vacuuming.

To accelerate the settling-in period: vacuum regularly and gently in the direction of the pile during the first months of use. Do not be alarmed by the volume of fiber collected in the vacuum — it is surface lint rather than structural fiber. Excessive shedding beyond this initial period, or shedding that is accompanied by visible thinning of the pile, should be reported to us for assessment. Bamboo silk and viscose fibers shed more than wool and require careful, gentle vacuuming.

Speed is paramount. The moment a liquid spill occurs: Blot immediately with a clean white absorbent cloth, pressing firmly without rubbing. Work from the outer edge of the spill inward to avoid spreading. Replace the cloth as it absorbs liquid. Do not rub — rubbing pushes the liquid deeper into the pile and spreads the stain. Cool water only — if the spill is a food-based liquid (wine, coffee, juice), apply a small amount of cool water to the blotted area and blot again. Repeat until absorption is minimal. Dry quickly — place a dry towel over the damp area and weight it down to draw out remaining moisture. Fan or air the area to accelerate drying. Do not use heat — hair dryers, irons, or steam will set stains permanently. For oil-based or complex stains, contact a specialist rug cleaning service promptly.

Curling edges and minor creases in handmade rugs are usually correctable. For rolled-in edge curls — common when a rug has been stored rolled for a period — simply unroll the rug and lay it face-up in a warm room. Place clean, heavy objects (books, furniture legs) at the edges for 24–48 hours, which will train the edge flat. Rug gripper tape applied to the underside of the edges can maintain flatness permanently.

For creases from folding — which should always be avoided in storage — lay the rug flat face-up and apply gentle, even warmth with a barely warm iron over a damp cotton cloth (not directly to the pile). Never iron directly onto pile or silk. For persistent creases in fine pieces, a professional rug specialist can use controlled steam and blocking to fully restore flatness. Contact Planet Arts if you encounter any dimensional issues with a piece we have supplied.

Designer & Trade Program

Yes. Planet Arts operates a dedicated Trade Program for professional interior designers, architects, interior stylists, and procurement firms. Trade registration entitles qualified professionals to preferred pricing, priority service, access to unpublished samples and prototype designs, dedicated account management, complimentary sampling for active projects, and direct access to our Jaipur design and production team for technical consultation.

The program is structured to support the specific workflow of design professionals: we understand that projects require flexibility in sampling timelines, that specifications change, and that project communication needs to be reliable and detailed. Our trade team is experienced in working within design studio workflows and can provide detailed technical documentation, production progress reports, and pre-shipment inspection support for every project.

Planet Arts acts as a full-service manufacturing partner for the interior design community. Our support encompasses the complete project arc: from initial design consultation and feasibility assessment, through design development (including technical cartoons, color confirmation samples, and pile height samples), through production management (with timeline milestones and photographic updates), and through final quality verification, packing, and coordinated delivery to site.

Designers working with Planet Arts on custom commissions have direct access to our design team for creative input, technical guidance on construction and material choices, and frank advice on what is and is not achievable within specific budgets and timelines. We view ourselves as a creative and technical extension of each design practice we work with, not merely a supplier.

Yes — sampling is an integral part of the Planet Arts process for custom and collection pieces. We offer: Yarn or material samples — physical samples of specified materials and colorways for texture, color, and sheen assessment. Hand-knotted sample panels — small sections (typically 20×20cm to 30×30cm) produced in the exact materials, colors, and knot density specified for your commission. These provide the most accurate representation of the final piece's character. Design color-way samples — for multiple color options in a single design, small color-confirmation panels allow side-by-side comparison before committing to the full production color palette.

Sample panels for hand knotted commissions involve real production time and cost, and a nominal sampling fee is applicable for complex or multi-panel sampling. For trade account holders, the first sample panel for an active project is typically provided at reduced or no cost as a courtesy of the program.

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a fundamental obligation in our trade relationships. We do not share client-provided designs, project briefs, client names, or project details with third parties under any circumstances without explicit written permission. Design files and client documentation are held securely within our team and are not accessible to external parties.

For projects where a designer is working under NDA with their own client, or where design IP is particularly sensitive, we are happy to execute a formal confidentiality agreement. Planet Arts has worked on the most prestigious residential, hospitality, and institutional projects globally — the trust of our design partners is our most valued professional asset.

Yes. Planet Arts is experienced in the formal architectural specification process and can provide the detailed technical documentation required for inclusion in project specifications: material specifications, construction method descriptions, performance data, fire and chemical compliance certifications, dimensional tolerances, lead time parameters, and pricing frameworks for quantity estimation.

For large-scale architectural projects — hotel developments, residential towers, commercial interiors — we can provide specification templates appropriate to the project scale, and can participate in design workshops, specification reviews, and client presentations at the design team's invitation. Contact our trade team to discuss specification requirements for any specific project.

Luxury residential design is one of the most active areas of Planet Arts' work. We supply individual rooms, entire residences, and multi-property portfolios for residential designers at all scales — from a single bespoke bedroom rug to a full-floor coordination across multiple living spaces. Designers working on luxury apartments, villas, townhouses, heritage estates, and private collector residences have found Planet Arts a reliable partner for pieces of exceptional quality and design integrity.

Residential projects benefit from the same full-service approach as commercial work: design consultation, sampling, production management, and coordinated delivery. Planet Arts pieces have been installed in distinguished residential projects across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.

The more context you can provide at the outset, the more efficiently we can develop a tailored proposal. Useful information includes: Space dimensions — floor plans, room dimensions, and desired rug footprint dimensions (or the furniture arrangement if you prefer our guidance on sizing). Project timeline — installation date or target delivery window. Budget range — even a broad indication helps us direct you to the most appropriate construction and material options. Aesthetic brief — mood boards, color references, design inspiration, the architecture of the space, or existing furnishing. Special requirements — fire certification, chemical compliance, specific country import standards, durability requirements.

You do not need to have all of this resolved before reaching out. An initial conversation is always the most efficient starting point, and our team will guide you through the information-gathering process at a pace that works for your project.

Yes. Planet Arts is well-structured for engagement with professional procurement and FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) teams on large-scale hospitality, commercial, and residential developments. We provide the detailed documentation, clear pricing structures, production milestones, compliance certifications, and logistical transparency that procurement teams require to manage complex projects confidently.

For projects with multiple spaces requiring coordinated rug specifications — hotel developments with hundreds of rooms, residential towers with consistent floor-by-floor specifications, or branded retail environments — we can develop a master specification framework that enables efficient ordering, consistent quality, and streamlined logistics across the full project scope.

Hospitality Projects

Hospitality is one of Planet Arts' most established and specialized practice areas. We have supplied luxury handmade rugs to five-star hotels, boutique resorts, branded residences, and high-end F&B establishments across India and internationally. Our hospitality offering covers the full spectrum of hotel floor spaces — grand lobby installations, room rugs, restaurant and bar areas, spa environments, and exterior terrace spaces (with appropriate weather-resistant constructions).

Hospitality rugs are engineered to meet the specific demands of contract environments: enhanced durability in high-pile constructions, fire performance compliance, stain-resistance treatments, and dimensional precision that allows seamless installation in complex floor plans. We also offer hospitality clients the flexibility of phased delivery for large-scale developments, coordinated with the project construction and fit-out schedule.

For grand hotel lobby environments — where rugs must accommodate the highest foot traffic, convey an immediate luxury impression, and work harmoniously with the architectural scale of the space — hand knotted wool rugs in medium pile with durable construction are typically the optimal specification. Wool's natural soil resistance, resilience under traffic, and ease of professional cleaning make it the material of choice for high-use environments. Knot densities of 80–160 KPSI provide sufficient design detail for large-scale pattern work while ensuring construction robustness.

For statements pieces in lobbies with lower pedestrian traffic — a seating alcove, a formal reception salon, or a private club entrance — wool-silk blend pieces add a level of visual sophistication that communicates the hotel's positioning to arriving guests. Large-format custom pieces with geometric or abstract designs scaled to the ceiling height and architectural volume of the lobby are among the most impactful rug commissions we execute. Planet Arts can work directly with the hotel designer, FF&E consultant, or architect on lobby rug specification.

Yes — hospitality and commercial interior projects typically require floor coverings to meet specific fire performance standards as part of building and life safety compliance. Wool is inherently flame-retardant due to its naturally high ignition temperature and self-extinguishing properties, making wool handmade rugs an excellent baseline for fire compliance without chemical treatment.

Specific fire performance certifications required vary by country and building classification. Common standards include Crib 5 (UK), BS 4790, EN ISO 11925-2, and Class I/II radiant panel tests (USA). Planet Arts can arrange independent fire performance testing of specific constructions by accredited laboratories, and can provide test certificates with project documentation. Please specify the applicable fire standard at the project brief stage so we can ensure compliance from the material and construction selection onwards.

Yes. Planet Arts can supply coordinated rugs for every area of a hotel development, with construction and specification tailored to the demands of each environment. Guest room rugs are typically hand tufted or medium-density hand knotted pieces in wool or wool-silk, designed for the intimate scale of individual rooms. Corridor runners are typically flatweave or low-pile hand tufted in highly durable wool for ease of maintenance and traffic performance. Restaurant and bar areas often feature hand tufted or hand knotted rugs in defined seating zones, with construction chosen for spill resistance and ease of cleaning. Spa and wellness areas may feature organic flatweaves or high-pile sensory rugs in natural fibers appropriate to the wellness aesthetic.

By coordinating construction method, palette, and design direction across all hotel areas within a single project, Planet Arts enables a cohesive design narrative from lobby to room — one of our most valued capabilities in the hospitality sector.

Large hospitality rug projects — encompassing multiple areas, construction types, and significant quantities — require careful timeline planning. As a broad framework: Design and specification phase: 4–8 weeks from initial brief to approved specifications. Sampling phase: 4–8 weeks for sample panels to be produced and approved. Production: dependent on total square footage, complexity, and construction mix; large projects of several hundred square meters may require 20–40 weeks of production time. Quality control and finishing: 2–4 weeks. Logistics and delivery: 2–6 weeks depending on destination and shipping method.

For most significant hospitality developments, total project timeline from brief to on-site delivery ranges from 9 to 18 months. Planet Arts encourages hospitality project teams to engage us as early as possible in the design development phase — ideally at schematic design stage — to allow adequate time for specification, sampling, and production without compromising quality or compressing timelines that require craftsmanship.

Yes — ongoing production capability is a significant advantage of working with a manufacturer rather than a retail supplier. Planet Arts maintains records of all completed project specifications, including construction parameters, yarn color formulations, and pattern documentation. When a hotel requires replacement rugs — for individual worn rooms, as part of a periodic refresh cycle, or following renovation — we can reproduce pieces to the original specification with very high fidelity.

Hospitality clients are encouraged to retain a small reserve of spare rugs from the original production run for very high-wear areas, and to enter a maintenance supply agreement with Planet Arts for future replacement needs. Contact our hospitality team to discuss ongoing supply arrangements for your property.

Yes. Planet Arts exports luxury handmade rugs globally and is experienced in navigating the international procurement and logistics requirements of global hotel brands and their FF&E design partners. We work with hospitality design consultancies, hotel operating companies, and independent boutique properties across Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas.

International hospitality clients benefit from our export infrastructure: efficient documentation, compliance with international trade requirements, experienced freight forwarding relationships, and project management teams fluent in the communication demands of cross-border, multi-stakeholder projects. We attend leading hospitality and interior design trade events and are accessible to international FF&E teams for direct consultation.

Yes. Branded and logo-integrated rug designs are a specialized area of our custom work. Hotel brands, restaurants, spas, and corporate environments commission rugs featuring brand marks, monograms, custom pattern motifs derived from brand language, or specific color palettes that reinforce brand identity through the floor plane. These pieces are typically hand knotted or hand tufted, with the brand element woven directly into the pile rather than applied or printed.

Logo and brand integration in handmade rugs requires careful design translation — converting vector brand assets into a form executable by skilled artisans at the specified knot density. Our design team has extensive experience in this process and will provide detailed design proofs for approval before any production commences. Branded pieces of this nature also carry intellectual property considerations, and Planet Arts is fully aligned with client IP requirements in this context.

Manufacturing & Craftsmanship

All Planet Arts rugs are manufactured in our own atelier in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Jaipur is globally recognized as the pre-eminent center of luxury handmade rug production, with a concentration of specialized craft knowledge — weavers, dyers, carvers, washers, and finishers — unmatched anywhere in the world for quality, scale, and the depth of accumulated generational expertise.

Unlike many brands that outsource manufacturing to multiple third-party workshops with variable quality control, Planet Arts maintains full ownership of our production environment. This means we control every stage of the process: from raw fiber selection and dyeing, through knotting and weaving supervision, to washing, finishing, quality inspection, and packing. This vertical control is the foundation of our consistency and the reason our quality standards can be genuinely guaranteed.

The number of artisans involved in producing a single hand knotted rug depends on its size and the urgency of the timeline. For medium-format pieces (approximately 200×300cm), typically 2 to 4 master weavers work side-by-side at the same loom, each responsible for their section of the width. Larger rugs may have 6 or more weavers working simultaneously.

Beyond the weavers themselves, a single rug involves numerous additional artisans: fiber sorters and hand-spinners who prepare the yarn, dye artisans who produce the colorways, loom setters who prepare the warp and establish the design grid, supervisors who check the work at regular intervals, washing specialists who manage the immersion and finishing wash, carvers who execute the relief carving, and quality inspectors who conduct the final review. A completed hand knotted rug from Planet Arts typically represents the cumulative contribution of 15 to 30 individual skilled workers at different stages.

The process of translating a design to the loom involves the creation of a technical cartoon (also known as a graph or point paper) — a scaled, grid-based representation of the design where each square of the grid corresponds to one knot in the finished rug. For modern production, digital design software generates these cartoons directly from the client's artwork, scaled precisely to the specified rug dimensions and knot density.

The printed or digital cartoon is then provided to the lead weaver at the loom, who reads it row by row — selecting the correct color of yarn and placing each knot according to the grid notation. For experienced weavers working on familiar pattern types, the process becomes highly efficient; for complex figurative or shaded designs, closer supervision and reference checking is standard practice. Planet Arts uses a hybrid system: digital cartoon generation combined with experienced floor supervisors who interpret complex design transitions for the weaving team.

The history of handmade rug production in Jaipur stretches back several centuries, with significant roots in the Mughal era when artisans from Persia were invited to establish craft traditions in the courts of Rajasthan. Over time, Jaipur developed its own distinctive regional character within the broader Indo-Persian carpet tradition — notable for particularly vibrant use of color, innovative pattern interpretations, and the integration of local natural dyeing traditions.

By the 20th century, Jaipur had become the most important hub of handmade rug production in India, attracting export partnerships with European and American buyers and developing the industrial infrastructure — yarn mills, dye houses, washing facilities — necessary to serve the global market at scale. Today, Jaipur remains the dominant center of India's handmade rug industry, home to the highest concentration of master weavers and the most developed ecosystem of specialized craft skills. Planet Arts, established in 2004, is part of this living tradition, contributing to its continuation and evolution through investment in artisanal training and design development.

Yes. Preserving and developing craft skill is both a business imperative and a genuine commitment at Planet Arts. The pool of truly skilled handmade rug artisans — particularly master weavers capable of executing the finest knot densities and most complex design work — is finite and not easily replaced. We invest in ongoing artisan training programs within our atelier, pairing experienced master weavers with newer recruits in apprenticeship-style mentorship arrangements that preserve the transmission of technique across generations.

We also invest in the working conditions and fair compensation of our artisans — understanding that skilled craftsmanship is best preserved by making rug-making a rewarding and dignified livelihood. Planet Arts' commitment to genuine craft is not marketing language; it is the foundation of every piece we produce and the primary reason our quality can be genuinely guaranteed over two decades of operation.

The Persian (Senneh) knot is an asymmetric knot where the pile yarn wraps fully around one warp thread, with the second end of the yarn passing behind the adjacent warp thread. This asymmetry means that the knot can be tied opening to either the left or right, giving weavers flexibility to execute fine diagonal lines and curved design elements. Persian knots can be packed more densely than Turkish knots at equivalent yarn weight, making them the preferred choice for fine, detailed design work. Jaipur is a Persian-knot production tradition.

The Turkish (Ghiordes) knot is symmetric — the pile yarn wraps fully around both adjacent warp threads, with both ends emerging between them. This produces a slightly more secure individual knot and a pile that stands more vertically, making it particularly suited to dense, geometric designs and heavy-duty constructions. Turkish knot rugs are characteristic of Anatolian, Caucasian, and some Central Asian traditions. Both produce beautiful, durable rugs — the difference is one of technical application rather than inherent quality.

Dyeing at Planet Arts begins with careful water quality management — the mineral content of dyeing water significantly affects color outcomes, and our dye facility uses treated water to ensure consistency. Wool is prepared for dyeing through a mordanting process (typically with alum or chrome mordants, depending on the dye type), which opens the fiber's surface to accept and bond with color molecules.

For synthetic-dyed pieces, precise dye formulations are mixed to achieve the specified color, applied to the yarn in heated dye baths, and then fixed through a rinse and drying cycle. The process is carefully controlled against approved color references, and test skeins are produced and compared against the client-approved color before full batch dyeing proceeds. Natural dyeing follows a similar structure but uses plant-derived colorants and typically requires longer dye cycles and more nuanced handling to achieve consistent results. All dyed yarn is dried thoroughly before being wound for production use.

The difference between a Planet Arts handmade rug and a machine-made alternative is categorical rather than merely a matter of degree. A machine-made rug is produced at speed through mechanical repetition — fast, consistent, and economical, but unable to replicate the specific qualities that define luxury handmade work. Key distinctions: Material depth — handmade rugs use a far greater quantity of premium fiber per square meter, producing a pile of genuine weight, density, and tactile richness that machine-made pieces cannot match. Design complexity — hand knotting allows design gradations, shading, and detail impossible for machines. Character and uniqueness — each handmade rug is a unique object with inherent variation that becomes its identity. Durability — the structural integrity of a hand knotted piece, built knot by knot, is vastly superior to machine weaving. Longevity — handmade rugs are investments that last generations; mass-produced pieces are consumable objects.

Genuine handmade rugs can be identified by several characteristics invisible to machine production: Back of the rug — the underside of a hand knotted rug shows individual knots as a series of slightly irregular bumps or loops, with the pattern just as visible on the back as the front (though in reverse). Machine-woven rugs have a distinctly different back — often with a secondary backing material, or a very regular, grid-like structure. Pile irregularity — slight variations in pile height and the subtle waviness of design edges in a hand knotted rug are marks of genuine craft, not defects. Selvedge edges — the long side edges of a hand knotted rug are typically hand-wrapped or overcast with yarn, while machine rugs have machine-finished or serged edges. Fringe — on genuine hand knotted pieces, the fringe is an extension of the warp threads — an integral part of the structure — not sewn on separately.

Planet Arts provides full production documentation and provenance certificates for all pieces, and our trade clients have complete visibility into the manufacturing process through studio visits and production updates.

Shipping & Export

Yes. Planet Arts is a globally active exporter with over two decades of experience in international rug logistics from our Jaipur manufacturing base. We export to clients across Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas, managing all stages of export documentation, customs compliance, freight forwarding, and delivery coordination. Our logistics infrastructure is specifically developed for the particular requirements of large, high-value, fragile textile goods.

International clients benefit from our established relationships with reputable freight forwarding partners, our experience with destination-country customs requirements, and our end-to-end shipment tracking systems. All shipments are fully insured from the point of dispatch. Whether you require courier delivery for a single piece or sea freight for a full hospitality project, Planet Arts manages the logistics with the same attention to detail as the manufacturing process.

Correct packing is critical to the safe transit of handmade rugs. Planet Arts follows a rigorous packing protocol: rugs are rolled pile-inward around a sturdy cardboard or PVC tube — never folded — to prevent any crease or pile damage during transit. The rolled rug is wrapped first in a layer of clean cotton cloth or acid-free tissue paper, then in polyethylene film for moisture protection, and finally in a reinforced brown paper or burlap outer wrap secured with tape and twine.

Large-format pieces and full project shipments are loaded into wooden crates or specific rug shipping containers designed to protect the rolls in transit. Every package is labeled with detailed contents, destination, handling instructions, and insurance documentation. For extremely fine or valuable pieces, additional padding and crating is provided as standard practice. Planet Arts' packing team is dedicated exclusively to this function and has refined the process over many years of successful international shipments.

Planet Arts offers flexible shipping options to accommodate the range of client timelines and project scales: Air freight — for time-sensitive individual pieces or small batches. Delivery to most international destinations within 3–7 business days from dispatch. Higher cost but significantly faster. Sea freight (LCL or FCL) — for larger project shipments, sea freight offers excellent cost efficiency. Typical transit times: 20–35 days to Europe, 25–45 days to the USA, 15–25 days to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Express courier — for sample panels, small pieces, and documents, DHL, FedEx, and UPS express services are used for convenient door-to-door delivery with real-time tracking. All shipment methods include full cargo insurance and end-to-end tracking accessible to clients through our logistics reporting system.

Import duty applicability and rates for handmade rugs from India vary by destination country and are subject to the trade agreements and customs classifications in effect at the time of import. India is a signatory to a range of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements that may reduce or eliminate duties for qualifying handmade textile goods in certain markets.

Planet Arts provides full export documentation — including commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and where applicable a GSP (Generalized System of Preferences) certificate — that enables clients and their import agents to claim applicable duty reductions. We strongly recommend that international clients consult with a customs broker in their destination country for precise current duty rate information relevant to their shipment. Planet Arts can also facilitate pre-shipment customs classification guidance to ensure correct HS code assignment for our products.

Shipping cost for handmade rugs from India depends on the dimensions and weight of the shipment, the destination, and the chosen shipping method (air, sea, or courier). As a general guidance: small individual pieces via air freight to Europe or the Middle East may begin from USD 80–200 depending on weight and dimensions. Large project shipments via sea freight will be significantly more cost-effective per piece and are quoted on the basis of the complete shipment volume and weight.

Planet Arts obtains competitive freight rates through our established freight forwarding partnerships and passes these rates transparently to clients. For project quotations, we include detailed shipping estimates based on the complete specification of the order. Clients may also nominate their own freight forwarder to collect from our Jaipur facility — a common arrangement for large hospitality and commercial projects where the client's procurement team manages consolidated logistics.

Planet Arts delivers to the destination and coordinates delivery logistics to the site. On-site installation — the physical laying, positioning, and any specialist fitting of rugs within the space — is typically the responsibility of the client's local installation team, interior contractor, or designated installer. We provide detailed installation guidance notes with every shipment, covering unrolling, orientation, edge treatment, and rug pad placement.

For projects in India, Planet Arts can arrange and coordinate professional installation through trusted local specialists in major cities. For international projects, we can provide guidance on identifying appropriate installation contractors if needed, and our team is available by consultation during the installation phase to advise on any on-site questions. For large hospitality projects, we strongly recommend that a Planet Arts representative is available remotely during the initial installation phase.

Yes. Multi-destination delivery is a standard logistical arrangement for Planet Arts, particularly for hospitality groups with properties across multiple locations, residential developers with units in different cities, or retailers supplying multiple stores. We manage complex multi-destination shipping as a single coordinated project, preparing individual shipment packages and documentation for each destination while maintaining overall project management oversight.

For multi-destination projects, we recommend establishing a clear delivery schedule in advance of production completion, as coordination across multiple logistics routes requires planning. Our logistics team works closely with client project managers to ensure each destination receives the correct pieces at the correct time, with full documentation for each delivery separately prepared.

Sustainability

Sustainability is an intrinsic quality of genuine handmade rug production — not a marketing add-on but a structural characteristic. The core materials we use — wool, silk, cotton, and plant-based fibers — are natural, renewable, and biodegradable. The production method — skilled human labor — has a fundamentally lower carbon footprint than mechanized production for equivalent quality output. And the product lifespan — decades to generations in hand knotted construction — means that the environmental cost per year of use is vastly lower than fast-fashion alternatives.

Planet Arts is actively committed to responsible manufacturing: our dye processes comply with OEKO-TEX standards for chemical safety; we source wool from suppliers committed to responsible animal welfare practices; we manage waste and water use in our Jaipur facility; and we invest in the welfare and livelihood of our artisan community — a form of social sustainability equally important to environmental practice. We are on a continuous journey of improvement in this area and are happy to discuss our specific practices in detail with clients for whom sustainability documentation is a project requirement.

Yes. Planet Arts sources wool, silk, and plant-based fibers with attention to supplier practices and animal welfare. Our primary wool supplies from New Zealand and the Himalayas come from suppliers with documented responsible husbandry practices. We avoid suppliers connected to mulesing practices — a particular concern for Merino wool sourcing — and prefer sources with independent animal welfare certification where available.

For clients requiring specific supplier-level documentation or third-party ethical sourcing verification for sustainability-sensitive projects, we are happy to provide the available supplier information and to work with clients to identify certified-source alternatives if required for specific projects. We believe that transparency in sourcing is as important as the quality of the final product, and we are committed to improving our documentation of this chain as standards in the sector evolve.

Natural vegetable dyes — derived from plants, minerals, and in some cases insects — represent the original dyeing tradition of handmade rug production and carry genuine environmental advantages over many synthetic alternatives. They are derived from renewable biological sources, biodegradable at end of product life, free from synthetic petrochemical compounds, and produce a uniquely complex, nuanced color quality that synthetic dyes cannot replicate.

The trade-off is one of performance: some natural dyes have lower light fastness than premium synthetic alternatives and may fade more significantly with sustained sun exposure. Planet Arts uses natural dyes for specific collections and client commissions where the aesthetic and environmental qualities are priorities, and uses premium synthetic dyes — certified to OEKO-TEX 100 standards — for the majority of production where color consistency and longevity are paramount. We are transparent about which dye system is used in any given piece.

Yes, and we consider artisan welfare an inseparable component of our commitment to quality. The finest handmade rugs can only be produced by skilled, motivated artisans who are treated with dignity and paid fairly for their expertise. At Planet Arts, our artisans receive wages that are competitive within Jaipur's skilled craft economy, work in clean and organized production environments, and benefit from the security of employment with an established company.

Our investment in artisan training and long-term employment also reflects the understanding that craft skill takes years to develop and must be valued financially to be sustained across generations. We are proud that many of our master weavers have been with Planet Arts for over a decade, and that the craft knowledge they carry is being transmitted to the next generation of artisans through our internal training programs. For clients requiring formal labor standards documentation, we are able to provide facility-level compliance information on request.

Yes. Natural-fiber handmade rugs — particularly those constructed entirely of wool, silk, and cotton — are genuinely biodegradable at end of their very long functional life. Wool decomposes naturally in soil, releasing its nitrogen content as a beneficial fertilizer. Cotton and linen likewise biodegrade readily. This is in stark contrast to synthetic-fiber machine-made rugs, which persist in landfill environments for hundreds of years.

The environmental end-of-life profile of a handmade natural-fiber rug is therefore significantly superior to synthetic alternatives — particularly given that its functional lifespan of several decades to a century means the cycle of replacement and disposal is itself far less frequent. For hand tufted rugs, the latex backing is less ideal from a biodegradability perspective, though the wool pile itself remains natural. Planet Arts is exploring latex alternatives for tufted constructions as part of our ongoing sustainability development.

Planet Arts uses dyes and finishing agents that meet OEKO-TEX Standard 100 requirements for textile chemical safety. We are engaged in ongoing work to formalize our sustainability commitments through additional third-party certification frameworks as the organization grows. For clients whose projects require specific sustainability certifications — LEED material contribution, BREEAM, Green Star, or specific brand sustainability standards — we encourage a direct conversation with our team at the project outset to understand what documentation is available and what additional steps can be taken to meet your project's requirements.

We are committed to transparency about our current capabilities and our roadmap for improvement, and believe that honest communication about where we are is more valuable to clients than overstated certification claims. This is a journey, and we pursue it with genuine commitment rather than marketing convenience.

Commercial Projects

Yes. Planet Arts has significant experience in commercial interior environments — from C-suite and boardroom spaces in corporate headquarters to reception areas, executive lounges, private members' clubs, and high-end retail environments. In these contexts, handmade rugs serve both functional and symbolic purposes: they define zones within open-plan spaces, introduce material warmth and acoustic absorption to hard-surfaced commercial interiors, and communicate brand values and design quality to visitors and clients.

Commercial applications require consideration of performance standards beyond residential norms: fire compliance, durability under regular professional cleaning, and in some cases acoustic performance ratings. Planet Arts addresses all of these requirements through appropriate material specification, construction choice, and provision of compliance documentation. We work with commercial interior designers and workplace design consultancies throughout the project lifecycle.

Luxury handmade rugs are an excellent design choice for retail environments — particularly boutique luxury retail, gallery spaces, flagship brand stores, and high-end showrooms — where the rug is as much a communication of brand quality as a practical floor covering. In these contexts, a handmade rug from Planet Arts conveys an immediate message about the brand's commitment to material excellence and design discernment.

For high-footfall retail, construction selection should prioritize durability: hand knotted or dense hand tufted wool pieces with appropriate pile weight. Regular professional cleaning maintenance should be factored into the retail operations plan. For quieter boutique or showroom environments, more delicate and visually spectacular pieces in wool-silk blends are entirely appropriate. Many luxury fashion, jewelry, and lifestyle brands have specified Planet Arts pieces for their flagship store environments.

Yes — private members' clubs, luxury restaurants, and premium F&B environments are among the most rewarding design contexts for Planet Arts pieces. These spaces require rugs that simultaneously perform under daily use and contribute powerfully to an atmosphere of distinction and comfort. The combination of durable wool construction with sophisticated design and expert installation creates floor-plane elements that become defining features of these environments.

For dining areas, we typically specify flatweave or low-pile hand tufted construction in wool — easier to maintain under the inevitable spills of a restaurant environment — with design that frames the dining arrangement without distracting from it. For lounge and club areas, higher-pile pieces with more elaborate design character are appropriate. Planet Arts can develop designs that integrate with the established aesthetic vocabulary of the venue or contribute a bold new visual statement as the designer directs.

For specific areas of educational and healthcare environments — particularly premium private schools, university executive spaces, luxury healthcare reception areas, and private clinic environments — Planet Arts can supply appropriate handmade rug specifications. These contexts require careful attention to hygiene considerations, fire performance, and materials free from chemical substances that might affect indoor air quality.

We do not supply standard school corridor or hospital ward specifications — our production is focused on luxury and high-design contexts where the investment in handmade quality is appropriate. For the premium areas of distinguished educational or healthcare institutions, however, Planet Arts pieces are entirely suitable and have been specified in such contexts. Specific certification and compliance requirements should be discussed with our team at the project outset.

Planet Arts can provide material documentation relevant to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification requirements for building projects. Natural fiber handmade rugs contribute positively to LEED material credit categories related to sustainable sourcing, low-VOC emission materials, and product transparency. Our OEKO-TEX compliant dyeing processes support indoor air quality credits.

The specific LEED documentation required depends on the credit categories being targeted and the version of LEED applicable to the project. Planet Arts recommends that clients working toward LEED certification share the specific material credit requirements with our team early in the specification process, so we can prepare the appropriate product data sheets, Environmental Product Declarations where available, and supplier information needed for the certification submission.

Planet Arts has the manufacturing capacity to handle projects across the full scale range — from a single custom rug for a private client to multi-hundred-room hotel developments requiring hundreds of coordinated pieces across multiple spaces. Our Jaipur atelier has sufficient loom capacity and artisan resource to run multiple large projects simultaneously, and our operations team is experienced in managing complex projects with overlapping timelines.

We do not impose minimum project sizes for direct clients — a single fine hand knotted rug commission receives the same attentive service as a major hospitality project. For very large-scale projects, we recommend engaging with us at an early stage of the design process to align production capacity with your timeline, and to agree a detailed project management framework that ensures smooth execution from specification through delivery.

Collections — Aura, Magna & Impact

The Aura collection is Planet Arts' most refined and quietly distinguished offering — a range defined by restrained luxury, tonal sophistication, and a design vocabulary that speaks in whispers rather than declarations. Aura pieces are characterized by their use of nuanced, complex colorways (often drawing on stone, mineral, sky, and earth palettes), subtle textural variation in the pile surface, and a design language that rewards extended looking rather than immediate visual impact.

Aura rugs are the natural choice for the most elevated residential interiors — master bedrooms of extraordinary private residences, the reception rooms of collector homes, and spaces designed by architects and interior designers who understand that true luxury lies in subtlety. The collection includes both purely abstract compositions and works with art-historical references treated with contemporary restraint. Construction is primarily hand knotted in fine wool and wool-silk blends, at knot densities that permit the gradational color work that defines the collection's character.

The Magna collection embodies confidence, architectural presence, and designed authority. Where Aura speaks softly, Magna commands. The collection features designs of greater graphic strength — bold geometric structures, large-scale pattern architecture, and color contrasts of deliberate impact. Magna pieces are designed to hold their presence in grand architectural settings: large formal living rooms, hotel lobbies, expansive entrance halls, and institutional spaces where the floor needs to anchor a vast volume.

The Magna collection is particularly favored by hospitality designers and architects working with strong architectural geometries, as well as by residential designers seeking a piece that functions as the commanding visual anchor of a room's composition. Construction encompasses hand knotted, hand tufted, and flatweave pieces depending on the design intent, with a material range from pure wool for the most robust pieces to wool-silk for those seeking both presence and luminosity.

The Impact collection is Planet Arts' most contemporary and design-forward offering — a range in which the handmade rug is approached with the language and ambition of contemporary art. Impact pieces push the boundaries of what is expected from a floor textile: they may feature dramatic scale effects, unexpected material combinations, sculptural pile treatments, or highly personal design statements developed in collaboration with artists and designers.

Collectors, leading interior designers working on vanguard projects, and clients seeking a piece of genuine artistic distinction find the Impact collection most aligned with their vision. The collection is the most varied in construction — encompassing experimental pile heights, mixed-material structures, dimensional carving effects, and color treatments that go well beyond conventional expectations. Impact pieces are made in the same Jaipur atelier as all Planet Arts work, but push the boundaries of what that atelier is capable of producing — a deliberate and ongoing challenge that drives technical innovation across all our collections.

Yes. All designs across the Aura, Magna, and Impact collections are available for customization in color, size, construction, and pile treatment. A collection design provides an excellent starting point for clients who respond to a particular design language but require specific adaptations — a different size, a color palette matched to their space, a different fiber combination, or a modified pile height.

Collection designs can also serve as a design reference or point of departure for a fully bespoke commission — where a client responds to the overall character of a collection piece but wishes to develop an entirely original design in conversation with our studio. There are no restrictions on the degree of customization applied to collection designs; Planet Arts treats every client's specific requirements with equal creative and technical investment regardless of whether the starting point is a collection piece or a blank brief.

All three Planet Arts collections have been specified in hospitality contexts, with the appropriate choice determined by the character of the property and its design intent. The Magna collection is perhaps the most naturally aligned with traditional luxury hospitality — its architectural scale, bold design confidence, and durable construction choices make it a reliable choice for hotel lobbies, dining rooms, and public areas where a powerful visual statement is required. The Aura collection finds its hospitality home in the most refined property categories — six-star hotels, exclusive private resorts, branded residences — where the interior aspires to residential quality rather than commercial convention. The Impact collection is the choice of hospitality designers working on design-led properties where the rug is intended to be talked about — a lifestyle hotel, a design-led boutique property, or a signature restaurant where the floor makes an artistic statement.

Planet Arts operates primarily as a made-to-order manufacturer. Collection pieces are not held as ready inventory, as the nature of handmade production and the customizability of every piece makes stock-holding impractical for our range. This means that every piece — even a design from our established collection — is made specifically for the client who orders it, in the precise specifications they confirm.

This approach means there is no compromise on size, color, or specification; every piece is exactly as ordered. It does mean that lead times apply to all orders including collection pieces, and clients should plan accordingly. In specific cases where urgent delivery is required, we may be able to accelerate certain construction types or accommodate orders with reduced lead times; contact our team to discuss the specifics of any time-sensitive requirement.

Yes. Planet Arts maintains a sample library of collection pieces and material/color references that can be shipped to qualified design professionals for project review. Physical sampling is the most reliable way to assess the true quality, color, and hand of our work — digital imagery, however high quality, cannot fully convey the dimensional richness, pile texture, and color subtlety of a handmade piece under different lighting conditions.

Sample panels for collection designs are available on request to trade program members. Residential clients may request samples through our direct client service, with a refundable sampling deposit applicable in some cases. For clients in Jaipur, our showroom and atelier provides direct experience of the full range of our work. For international clients, we can arrange digital consultations with detailed sample review by video call.

Yes. Designer and artist collaboration is a dimension of Planet Arts' creative activity that brings new design perspectives to our manufacturing expertise. We have engaged in collaborative projects with interior designers, contemporary artists, and design studios who wish to translate their visual language into the medium of handmade textiles — a translation that requires both creative understanding and deep technical knowledge of what handmade rug construction can and cannot achieve.

If you are a designer or artist interested in discussing a collaboration — whether for a limited edition series, a specific installation, or an ongoing design development relationship — we welcome the conversation. Planet Arts sees these collaborations as an opportunity for mutual creative development and for expanding the artistic possibilities of Jaipur's handmade rug tradition in directions that honor its craft heritage while remaining genuinely contemporary.

For a contemporary minimalist interior — characterized by neutral palettes, architectural clarity, refined material selection, and deliberate negative space — the Aura collection is most naturally aligned. Aura's tonal restraint, nuanced color work, and subtle surface variation complement rather than compete with the clean geometry of a minimalist space, adding material warmth and tactile depth without introducing visual noise.

Specific Aura pieces in natural undyed wool, warm stone tones, or very gentle abstract fields — with minimal color contrast and carefully controlled pile surface — create floor planes that feel inevitable in minimalist interiors: present and enriching, but entirely uncontrived. For minimalist interiors with a slightly stronger graphic intent — where a single geometric element is introduced as a deliberate tension — certain pieces from the Magna collection in reduced palettes can also work beautifully. Our design consultancy service can help identify the most appropriate pieces for your specific interior.
