What We Produce

Handcrafted Pile. Unlimited Design Freedom.

Hand-tufted rugs are produced by skilled artisans using a handheld tufting gun to push pile yarn through a stretched canvas backing. The result is a dense, even pile construction that holds colour brilliantly, takes complex patterns precisely and delivers the tactile luxury of a handmade rug — at a fraction of the production time required by hand-knotting.

For designers, architects and hospitality buyers, this translates directly into capability: custom dimensions without premium penalty, bespoke colourways matched from any reference, and complex geometric or painterly patterns that would be cost-prohibitive in other constructions.

At Planet Arts we have manufactured hand-tufted rugs since 2004, supplying luxury residential projects, five-star hotel groups, boutique hospitality brands and design-led importers across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are hand-tufted rugs?

Hand-tufted rugs are made by skilled artisans using a handheld tufting gun to push pile yarn through a primary backing canvas. The result is a dense, handmade pile rug that can accommodate complex patterns, custom dimensions and bespoke colourways — produced in a fraction of the time required for hand-knotted construction.

How durable are hand-tufted rugs?

Wool hand-tufted rugs are highly durable and well-suited to residential and commercial use when correctly specified and maintained. Viscose and bamboo silk constructions perform best in lower-traffic or purely decorative contexts. We advise on material selection based on your specific application.

How do hand-tufted rugs compare to hand-knotted rugs?

Hand-knotted rugs are produced by tying individual knots to the warp — a labour-intensive process that can take months or years for a single piece. Hand-tufted rugs offer comparable visual luxury and full custom capability at significantly shorter lead times and more accessible price points. For most luxury residential and hospitality applications, hand-tufted is the practical choice.

Can hand-tufted rugs be custom made?

Yes — custom production is our primary business. We manufacture to any size, shape, colour palette and pattern. Share your brief and we will advise on the most appropriate material and construction for your project.

Can you match custom colours?

Yes. We match colourways from Pantone references, paint swatches, fabric samples or digital references. A colour strike-off is produced and approved before production commences to ensure accuracy across the full run.

What materials do you produce?

We manufacture in 100% wool, 100% viscose, bamboo silk and wool-viscose blends. Other material combinations are available on request — contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

Do you manufacture hospitality rugs?

Yes. Hospitality is a core part of our business. We supply hotel groups, boutique properties and resort projects worldwide with hand-tufted rugs in commercial wool and wool-blend constructions, including fire-retardant treated options where required.

What are your minimum order quantities?

We produce from single custom pieces upwards. For sample orders, there is no minimum. For production runs, minimum quantities depend on the material and construction — contact us for specific guidance based on your project.

What is the lead time for custom production?

Standard custom production runs 6–10 weeks from sample approval to dispatch. Complex designs, large quantities or specialised material requirements may extend timelines. We always confirm lead times before production commences.

How long does sampling take?

Design strike-offs are typically produced within 2–3 weeks of confirming the brief. Hand samples (where required) take 3–4 weeks. Sample timelines are confirmed at the brief stage.

Do you export internationally?

Yes — we export to more than 40 countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and across Southeast Asia. All shipments include full export documentation.

Can you produce private-label collections?

Yes. We manufacture under your brand with custom labelling, swing tags, packaging and documentation. Our private-label programme is used by retailers and importers across Europe, North America and the Middle East.

What pile heights are available?

Pile heights typically range from 8mm to 20mm depending on material and construction. Low-pile, mid-pile and high-pile options are available. We advise on pile height based on design intent and application.

Can you produce rugs in irregular or custom shapes?

Yes. Round, oval, runner, stair and custom-outline shapes are all achievable. Shape cuts are produced after the tufting process and applied during finishing.

What is the backing on your hand-tufted rugs?

We apply a latex secondary backing for pile stability, followed by a cotton duck or felt backing layer depending on specification. Backing options can be specified based on the intended application and any underfloor heating requirements.

Do you offer fire-retardant rugs for hospitality?

Yes. FR-treated backing and construction options are available for hospitality, commercial and public-space specifications. We can supply compliance documentation on request.

How do I care for a hand-tufted rug?

Wool rugs benefit from regular vacuuming and professional cleaning when required. Viscose and bamboo silk rugs should be professionally dry-cleaned and kept away from moisture and direct sunlight. We provide care instructions with every order.

Can you work from a designer's artwork file?

Yes. We accept design files in Adobe Illustrator, PDF, high-resolution JPEG and PNG formats. Our in-house team converts artwork to a tufting-ready format and produces a digital proof for approval before sampling begins.

Do you supply samples before placing a production order?

Yes — sampling is a standard step in our process. We produce material samples and colour references as an initial step, followed by hand samples for custom designs. Production commences only after sample approval.

What documentation do you provide for export?

We provide commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, GSP Form A (where applicable), quality certificate and any additional compliance documentation required by the destination country.

Can you handle large-volume production consistently?

Yes. Our production facility in Jaipur handles both bespoke single-piece orders and large-volume commercial programmes. Colour and quality consistency across multi-unit hospitality and retail runs is a standard capability.

Can I visit your production facility?

Yes. We welcome visits from designers, buyers and procurement teams to our Jaipur facility. Contact us to arrange a visit and we will coordinate dates and logistics.
