Our Story

Two Decades of
Manufacturing Excellence

CEPC
Certified Exporter — Carpet Export Promotion Council of India

Planet Arts is a luxury handmade rug manufacturer and custom manufacturing partner based in Jaipur, Rajasthan — the global capital of handmade carpet production. Since 2004, we have built, refined, and sustained one of the region's most capable production operations for international clients.

We are not a showroom or a trading company. Planet Arts is a manufacturer — a production house with deep knowledge of every technique, material, and process involved in creating handmade rugs of lasting quality. Our facilities and artisan networks are designed for the demands of serious international projects: precise specifications, consistent execution, and reliable timelines.

"Every piece that leaves our facility is a direct reflection of our standards — not a compromise between quality and scale."

Our client base spans interior designers, architects, luxury hospitality groups, rug retailers, importers, and private clients across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. For each, we serve as a dedicated manufacturing partner — from initial consultation through to international delivery.

CEPC certification — awarded by the Carpet Export Promotion Council of India — validates our standing as a quality-assured, compliance-ready exporter. It is the industry standard for international buyers conducting due diligence on Indian rug manufacturers.

Our Beliefs

The Philosophy Behind
Every Thread

Planet Arts holds four convictions that inform every manufacturing decision — from the choice of fibre to the selection of artisan.

i

Handmade Matters

A handmade rug is not simply a product — it is a record of skilled human effort, carried in the irregularities and textures that no machine can replicate. The hand introduces life into the material. That distinction is precisely why the world's finest interiors continue to choose handmade over manufactured.

ii

Craft Demands Honesty

Quality in handmade rug manufacturing is measurable: knot density, material grade, pile height consistency, colour fastness, structural tension. We do not use loose specifications or vague quality language. Every Planet Arts piece is manufactured to defined standards, inspected against them, and certified accordingly.

iii

Customisation is the Standard

The most significant rugs in any interior are never off-the-shelf. They are designed for the space, the client, and the moment. Planet Arts is built for this — our entire process, from design development to digital proofing to production, is structured around custom manufacturing as the default, not the exception.

iv

Scale Without Compromise

Delivering a single bespoke piece and fulfilling a hundred-room hospitality contract demand different things from a manufacturer. Planet Arts is structured for both. Our artisan network, production supervision, and quality processes scale with the project — without diluting the standard of work.

Techniques & Specialisations

What We Manufacture

01 Hand-Knotted

The Pinnacle of Handmade Rug Construction

Hand-knotted rugs are produced by skilled artisans who tie each individual pile knot — by hand — around the warp threads of a traditional loom. The density of knots, measured in knots per square inch (KPSI), determines the fineness of pattern detail and the longevity of the rug. A high-KPSI hand-knotted rug may take months to complete and represents the most labour-intensive form of handmade rug production. The result is a piece of enduring structural integrity and unmatched surface complexity — considered an heirloom object in the finest residential and commercial interiors globally.

02 Hand-Tufted

Sculptural Surfaces, Precision Construction

In hand-tufting, a handheld tufting gun is guided by the artisan to push yarn through a backing fabric stretched across a frame. Unlike hand-knotting, the loops are held in place by a secondary backing applied after tufting. The technique permits exceptional versatility in pile height, surface relief, and pattern complexity — allowing three-dimensional sculptural effects, high-contrast textures, and contemporary design language. Lead times are shorter than hand-knotted production, making hand-tufted rugs a strong choice for projects with defined timelines.

03 Flatweave

Geometric Precision Without Pile

Flatweave rugs are constructed entirely by interlacing warp and weft threads, producing a dense, flat surface with no pile layer. The absence of pile creates a lighter, reversible textile with crisp graphic pattern resolution — suited to contemporary and minimalist interiors where a lower visual profile is desired. Flatweave construction is technically demanding: pattern accuracy depends on the precision of every weft pass. Planet Arts' flatweave production is executed by artisans with deep specialisation in the technique.

04 Kilim

A Flatweave Tradition with Ancient Roots

The kilim is a flatweave textile with origins in Central Asian and South Asian weaving traditions, dating back millennia. Kilim construction uses a slit-weave or interlocking weft technique to produce bold geometric patterns in a pile-free surface. The resulting textile is reversible, lightweight, and visually graphic — qualities that have made the kilim an enduring choice in both traditional and contemporary design contexts. Planet Arts manufactures kilims in both traditional geometric patterns and contemporary interpretations developed to client specification.

05 Dhurrie

India's Signature Flatweave Tradition

The dhurrie is a distinctly Indian flatweave rug, traditionally woven from cotton on pit looms across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. The technique produces a flat, reversible textile with a soft, pliable hand — well-suited to warm climates and indoor-outdoor transitions. Historically produced in bright geometric patterns for everyday use, the dhurrie has been reinterpreted in contemporary interior design as a refined, understated textile. Planet Arts produces dhurries in both traditional and modern design languages, in cotton, wool, and blended materials.

06 Hospitality

Engineered for High-Performance Environments

Hospitality rugs occupy a category of their own. Beyond aesthetics, they must perform — under heavy foot traffic, in fire-rated environments, across multi-year maintenance cycles. Planet Arts' hospitality rug manufacturing incorporates flame-retardant material specifications, reinforced construction techniques, and production processes designed for large-volume consistency across extended project timelines. We have supplied handmade hospitality rugs for luxury hotel properties, resort developments, and commercial installations internationally.

07 Bespoke

Made Precisely to Brief

Bespoke rug manufacturing at Planet Arts begins with the client's intent — whether expressed as a finished design, a reference image, a mood board, or a verbal brief. Our design team translates the intent into technical weaving specifications, provides digital proofing for approval, and produces a rug that exists nowhere else. Every variable — material, technique, pile height, dimensions, colour, pattern — is determined by the project rather than by catalogue. Bespoke manufacturing is the core of what Planet Arts does.

Why Planet Arts

The Planet Arts Difference

What separates a capable rug manufacturer from an exceptional manufacturing partner is the infrastructure built around the product. These are the systems Planet Arts has spent twenty years developing.

Custom Manufacturing

Every project is a clean-sheet engagement. We manufacture to specification — no standard sizes, no standard colourways, no limitations imposed by stock. The brief is the boundary.

Digital Proofing

Before production begins, our design team delivers colour-accurate digital renderings of the final rug. Designs can be reviewed, modified, and approved with confidence — eliminating the risk of expensive production errors.

Material Expertise

Material selection is a craft in itself. Our team guides clients through the technical and aesthetic properties of each fibre — NZ wool, Tibetan wool, hand-spun wool, pure silk, bamboo silk, cotton, linen — matched to the environment and intent of the project.

Quality Control

A formal, multi-stage quality process runs from material sourcing through pre-shipment inspection. Every export consignment includes quality certification documentation. Standards are defined, documented, and consistently applied.

Export Management

As a CEPC-certified exporter, Planet Arts manages the full international logistics chain — shipping documentation, customs compliance, quality certificates, freight coordination, and container management to 190+ countries.

Dedicated Project Teams

Every client engagement is assigned a dedicated project manager who coordinates design, production, quality review, and logistics. One point of contact. Complete accountability across the project lifecycle.

Global Reach

From Jaipur,
to Global Projects

Jaipur, Rajasthan has been a centre of handmade rug and carpet production for centuries. The region's artisan communities carry deep, inherited knowledge of weaving traditions — hand-knotting, natural dyeing, and geometric pattern construction — that cannot be replicated elsewhere at the same quality or scale. This is where Planet Arts manufactures.

From Jaipur, we export completed handmade rugs to clients in North America, the United Kingdom, continental Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Our export infrastructure is purpose-built: a dedicated logistics team, established freight relationships, complete documentation capability, and the procedural knowledge to navigate international customs requirements efficiently.

How We Work

The Manufacturing Process

Step 01
Consultation

We review your project brief, discuss technique options, material suitability, sizing requirements, and timeline. Every Planet Arts project begins with a direct conversation between your team and ours.

Step 02
Design Development

Our design team translates your brief — sketch, mood board, CAD file, or verbal direction — into a complete weaving specification, including pattern layout, colour palette, pile structure, and material selection.

Step 03
Sampling

For most custom projects, we produce a physical sample — a section of the rug at full specification — allowing you to assess texture, colour fidelity, and pile quality before full production begins.

Step 04
Digital Proofing

A colour-accurate digital rendering of the complete rug is provided for client approval. Adjustments to pattern, scale, or colour are made at this stage — before a single thread of production yarn is woven.

Step 05
Manufacturing

Production begins on approved artisan looms, supervised by our production team. Progress is monitored against specification throughout — pile height, tension, pattern accuracy, and colour consistency are checked at each stage.

Step 06
Quality Control

A formal pre-shipment inspection is conducted against the approved specification. All dimensions, surface quality, colour fastness, and finishing are verified. Quality certification documentation is prepared for the export consignment.

Step 07
Shipping

Export documentation is prepared and shipment is coordinated with our established freight partners. We manage the full logistics chain from Jaipur to your delivery destination — with complete documentation and shipment tracking.

The Raw Material

Craftsmanship
& Materials

The quality of a handmade rug begins long before the loom. Material selection — the grade of wool, the origin of silk, the preparation of the fibre — determines the surface quality, durability, and character of the finished piece. Planet Arts sources materials from established suppliers with a consistent standard.

Our production team guides every client through material selection based on the technical requirements of their project: intended environment, foot traffic levels, desired texture and sheen, cleaning requirements, and aesthetic direction. No material is selected without understanding how it performs in the specific context of the piece being made.

  • New Zealand Wool

Prized for its long staple length, natural lustre, and resilience under heavy use. New Zealand wool produces a pile with excellent colour absorption, a natural sheen, and consistent texture — the most widely used premium fibre in luxury hand-knotted rug production.

  • Tibetan Wool

Highland wool from Tibetan sheep is distinctively coarse and thick, producing a matte, dense pile with exceptional durability and a characteristic organic quality. Tibetan wool rugs have a particular tactility — weighted and grounded — that distinguishes them in contemporary interiors.

  • Hand-Spun Wool

Yarn produced by traditional hand-spinning methods carries natural variation in thickness — an intentional irregularity that creates subtle surface movement in the finished rug. The natural abrash (tonal variation) of hand-spun wool is considered a hallmark of authenticity in luxury handmade rugs.

  • Pure Silk

Silk pile produces the finest knot definition achievable in handmade rug production — enabling extraordinary pattern resolution and a characteristic luminosity that shifts with light and viewing angle. Pure silk rugs represent the summit of the hand-knotted craft and require the highest level of artisan skill to execute.

  • Bamboo Silk

A plant-based alternative to pure silk, bamboo silk offers a comparable visual sheen and silky surface texture at a different price point. Bamboo silk is also more resilient than pure silk under light-use conditions, making it a practical choice for residential interiors where silk character is desired.

  • Cotton & Natural Fibres

Cotton is the preferred fibre for dhurrie production and is widely used in flatweave construction for its clean colour response and flat-lying properties. Natural fibres including jute, linen, and hemp are used both structurally and as pile materials for specific aesthetic and sustainability-oriented briefs.
